It can take several weeks to recover completely from the proctectomy, with the first to sixth week of healing being the majority of time when a follow-up visit with your surgeon is scheduled, along with any lifestyle modifications based on your surgeon's recommendations.
The success rate of a proctectomy for different conditions varies depending on the severity of the condition & the surgical technique used, however, in general there is a high success rate (70%,) for patients after experiencing a proctectomy with regard to eliminating symptoms such as incontinence and with regard to the re-occurrence of rectal prolapse (8-10% for rectal prolapse).
