Meniscus Repair Cost in Czechia

The price is available ON REQUEST

The meniscal cartilages are two C-shaped wedges of elastic tissue within the knee, that act as load sharers and shock absorbers. The medial cartilage is on the inner aspect of the knee and the lateral cartilage is on the outer aspect. The outer part of every cartilage extends round to the back of the knee. Meniscal tears are quite common, and they tend to occur from twisting movements on the knee, e.g. soccer tackle slips or ski accidents. From the age of thirty onwards, the menisci will begin to become progressively looser, more friable and weaker, and therefore more prone to tear. Degenerative meniscal tears occur spontaneously, with no actual history of a specific trauma. Meniscal tears will cause pain, swelling, clicking, catching, giving way, and/or locking in the knee. The best investigation for confirming a suspected meniscal tear is to get a magnetic resonance imaging scan. If the symptoms you are facing because of a meniscal tear are mild, you must protect the knee and avoid putting extra pressure on it. If the symptoms get worse, you must approach a doctor and consider knee surgery. Any patient with meniscal symptoms and a locked knee that won’t straighten out fully should be considered to have a displaced locket bucket-handle meniscal tear till evidenced otherwise. If you face any such problems, you need an MRI scan soon, as a displaced bucket-handle meniscal tear requires knee surgery. The longer a displaced bucket handle tear is left, the less probable it is that the torn meniscal tissue can be reducible into place and fixable, and the more likely it is that the cartilage can instead simply end up wanting to be removed.

b. Meniscus Repair in Prague, Czech Republic

For non - surgical treatment, you use rest, ice, compression, and elevation, method. This is in addition to physiotherapy. You will be required to wear a knee brace for a brief time.

With surgery, you will be able to have one amongst the following:

  • Surgical repair to suture the torn tissues along with the surrounding structures.
  • Partial removal surgery is surgery to get rid of the torn section of the meniscus.

Total removal surgery is surgery to get rid of the whole meniscus. This surgery is not usually done. This is because it will increase the risk of arthritis within the knee. When possible, it is better to mend the meniscus than to get rid of it. If the meniscus is fixed, you have a lower risk of future joint issues. However partial removal surgery could also be done if the torn pieces of the meniscus are causing pain and swelling.

Some varieties of tears cannot be fixed. Radial tears generally will be fixed, however, it depends on where they occur. Most of the time, horizontal, long-standing, and chronic tears—those caused by years of damage and tear—can not be fixed. The older you are, the less possible it is that your tear will be repaired. For these varieties of tears, you will need to have half of all of the meniscus removed. Meniscus surgery in the Czech Republic is usually completed using arthroscopy rather than open surgery. Your doctor puts a well-lit tube with a small camera—called an endoscope, or scope—and surgical tools through little incisions during surgery. In young patients, surgery to fix the tear is usually the first choice. The use of the knee must be restored in this age group of patients. Surgery has risks, including infection, a blood clot within the leg, harm to nerves or blood vessels, and therefore the risks of anesthesia. When surgery is over, you might still have some amount of pain and joint stiffness.

About the Meniscus Repair

Meniscus surgery is a frequent treatment used to remove or repair a torn meniscus, which is the cartilage in the knee. It involves making a few small incisions and typically takes about an hour. Recovery and Rehabilitation generally take a few weeks. The surgery aims to reduce pain, improve mobility and stability, and help Patients return to normal activities.

Minor meniscus tears can heal on their own if there is adequate blood supply to the area. However, some tears may require arthroscopic surgery for proper repair. Rest is crucial for ligament healing, and using ice packs along with physical therapy can aid in the recovery process.

What is Meniscus?

Each knee has two menisci, which are rubbery, C-shaped cushions that act as shock absorbers in the knee joint. If a meniscus is injured or torn (often referred to as torn cartilage), your healthcare provider may recommend surgery to remove or repair the damaged part.

Classification

It can be performed by the following

  • Open meniscus
  • Inside-outside meniscus
  • Outside-in meniscus
  • All inside technique

Is surgery required for every meniscus injury?

Not everyone with a torn meniscus requires surgery. The decision depends on several factors, including:

  • The size, kinds, and location of the tear
  • Your age
  • Your activity level and lifestyle
  • Any related injuries (e.g., ACL tear)
  • The presence of symptoms (pain, swelling, locking, buckling, etc.)

Healthcare providers may initially recommend nonsurgical treatments, such as:

  • RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation)
  • NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)
  • Physical therapy
  • Knee injections, such as cortisone

How is Meniscus Repair performed?

The most common procedure for a torn meniscus is knee arthroscopy, which typically takes less than an hour.

First, the Patient will receive anesthesia. The surgical team will clean the skin on the knee and cover the rest of the patient's leg with a surgical drape. A clamp may be placed on the upper thigh to aid positioning during the surgery.

The surgeon will make a few small incisions, called portals, in the patient’s knee. The knee joint will then be filled with a sterile fluid to control minor bleeding and wash away debris, improving visibility inside the joint.

A small tool called an arthroscope, which is a thin tube with a light and video camera at the end, will be inserted through one of the incisions. The camera projects video images from inside the patient’s knee onto a monitor.

By using the arthroscope, the surgeon will examine the tear and determine the appropriate surgical technique:

  • Meniscus Repair: The surgeon sews the torn pieces of cartilage back together to heal. However, due to the type of tear and blood supply, less than 10% of tears are repairable.
  • Partial Meniscectomy: The surgeon trims and removes the diseased cartilage, while leaving the healthy meniscus tissue intact.

Depending on the technique used, the surgeon will insert other surgical tools as needed. Once the meniscectomy or meniscus repair is complete, the surgeon will close the portals with stitches or surgical strips and cover your knee with a bandage.

Recovery from Meniscus Repair

What is meniscus Repair recovery like?

The Recovery time for meniscus surgery varies depending on the type of operations performed. In general meniscus repair takes longer to heal than a meniscectomy. Full recovery can take anywhere between six weeks to three months. Post-surgery care may include:

  • Using crutches to reduce stress on the knee during healing
  • To stabilize the joint wearing a knee brace is required.
  • Taking pain medications
  • Participating in physical therapy
  • Performing rehabilitation exercises at home to restore mobility, range of motion, and strength
  • The RICE protocol (rest, ice, compression, and elevation) must be followed.
