The purpose of Robotic Hernia Repair is to repair part of the abdominal wall which is weak (hence a Hernia). If these weakened areas were not repaired, they could cause pain, obstruction, and potential strangulation of the internal organs.

Robotic Hernia Repair is performed under general anesthesia, utilising a robotic surgical system for the repair of the abdominal wall. Small incisions are made in the abdomen, through which a camera and robotic instruments are inserted, and mesh is used to reinforce the hernia repair.
Typically, Robotic Hernia Repair takes approximately 1 to 2 hours to complete, depending upon the complexity of the hernia.

The rate of recurrence for certain hernias, including complex inguinal and ventral, is typically between 0.5%-5%, and the reoperation rate is also around 0% during the first one to two years after robotic hernia surgery.
