Impella is a tiny, innovative pump that helps your heart’s ventricles keep blood moving. You see, it often shows up during risky procedures, like when doctors perform PCI, or in tough heart cases such as cardiogenic shock or worsening heart failure. By keeping the blood flowing, it gives the heart a chance to chill and even recover a bit. People call it a ventricular assist device, known as the smallest heart pump around; in desperate moments, it might even save a life.
- Device Insertion: A tiny pump called the Impella device is pushed into the heart's left ventricle by passing through a major artery, usually in the groin.
