The enlarged prostate tissue that is obstructing urine flow and closing blood vessels is then carefully sliced and removed using a holmium laser. A morcellator is used to break up and suck out the excised tissue, and samples are sent for analysis in a lab. According to the procedure, a urinary catheter is inserted to facilitate healing, and the instruments are removed.
Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) typically takes 1 to 3 hours, depending on prostate size and the complexity of the condition. The exact duration may vary from patient to patient based on individual clinical factors.
