Lasik surgery is one of the most popular procedures for correction vision. For problems like astigmatism, myopia, and hypermetropia, Lasik offers a near-permanent solution thereby restoring healthy vision to the suffering individual. Abbreviated from Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, LASIK is a laser-assisted eye surgery that implements microkeratomes for the improvement of visual acuity. The laser is targeted at the cornea, which is re-adjusted or reshaped so as to provide unaided vision to the candidates. Lasik treatment is very popular owing to its remarkable success rates, which is why, approximately 700,000 procedures are performed annually.
LASIK is one of the foremost popular laser vision correction procedures with nearly 28 million procedures performed worldwide so far. There are many cases of myopia where nearly 80% of the youth is short-sighted, LASIK surgery in Singapore is extremely popular. A laser is used in LASIK to sculpt or shape the cornea, while changing the way and the direction that the light bends, hence correcting the refractive errors. Medically known as laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis or LASIK, the surgery in Singapore costs around 3500 USD to 5000 USD for both eyes.
Laser vision correction with LASIK surgery is currently the most effective and safest way of achieving this objective for a person who is unwilling or unable to wear spectacles or use contact lenses. A consultation with an ophthalmologist is required to evaluate a person's eligibility for vision correction. There are several factors that can influence the pricing of LASIK price in Singapore :
Preoperative eye evaluation services - Before you get your vision correction done there is a standardized process for you to go through. Pre-surgery evaluation tests determine if an individual is suitable for LASIK surgery or not. These tests are important to determine the LASIK procedure that is best for an individual. This test includes -
Measurement of the corneal dimensions
Measurement of the visual acuity.
Generally, it takes 2 to 3 hours for all the tests to be completed. The surgeons will then decide the cost of the surgery. The cost of the preoperative eye evaluation can range widely between 5 USD to 300 USD.
Post-operative consultation services - it usually takes around half an hour for both the eyes to get LASIK surgery done.
The doctor will prescribe the patient the relevant medication after a quick checkup followed immediately after the surgery. For the next 3-6 months, the patient needs to come for follow-up.
Follow - Up is different for every patient.
These postoperative reviews can cost anywhere between 50 USD to 200 USD per visit.
Type of technology used for LASIK - prices may vary depending on the technology used to perform the LASIK surgical treatment. Less advanced machines are used in some clinics which may cost less for the patients.

The worldwide average of people with myopia (nearsightedness) is about 20% of the global population, and so it is reasonable to assume that about 1 out of 5 people in Singapore are also suffering from the condition. Undergoing LASIK surgery in Singapore is generally very safe as the eye surgeons here have had a lot of practice, owing to the fact that there are such high rates of myopia in the country. However, a patient will want to go to an experienced eye surgeon who specialises in refractive eye surgery and has done thousands of LASIK procedures to minimise the risk and ensure the best results. LASIK in Singapore has achieved excellent results with success rates (vision better than 6/12) exceeding 98 percent.
Singapore uses modern equipment and technology to perform LASIK surgery. Here are some of them -
Lasik (laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis) - To treat those with short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism. They used an Advanced LASIK procedure (A-LASIK). It is the most popular type of laser eye surgery and offers benefits including a fast recovery and excellent visual outcomes.
PRK - Photorefractive keratectomy or the PRK method is effective in correcting small degrees of myopia, with or without astigmatism, and higher degrees of myopia too, in which the cornea is relatively thin. A very thin laser beam is put on to the surface of the cornea. The corneal flap is not created in this technique, but the surface membrane of the cornea (epithelium) is removed using a special tool, and then Excimer Laser treatment is done. By the end of the surgery, a contact lens is applied to the epithelium which will facilitate healing in three to four days. This is performed by the use of local anesthetic eye drops. This procedure usually takes a few minutes to complete.
LASEK - LASEK (Laser-Assisted Epithelial Keratomileusis) involves peeling back the epithelium (the thin layer of cells that cover the cornea) exposing Bowman's layer. This is then reshaped with a laser beam and then the epithelium is replaced. LASEK with Wavefront 3D imaging can provide the best results. This procedure is suitable for people with common sight problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
CXL - Collagen Cross Linking or CXL is done during laser surgery. Ultra Violet light is shone on it for a minute before Vitamin B12 drops are applied to the eye. This helps to enable the tissues of collagen in the eye to create a meshwork and strengthen the cornea.
