International Quality. Affordable Care.

In Situ Laser Assistance The procedure known as keratomileusis, or LASIK, has become a ground-breaking method of treating refractive defects like astigmatism, farsightedness, and nearsightedness. People who want to give up wearing glasses and contact lenses are choosing LASIK surgery more and more, a thriving metropolis known for its medical amenities.

Factors affecting the cost of LASIK:

  • Equipment and Technology: Modern technology, such as excimer and femtosecond lasers, greatly enhances the safety and effectiveness of LASIK procedures. Clinics with the newest technology typically have greater costs. Investing in clinics with state-of-the-art equipment typically gives patients peace of mind because it shows that the facility is dedicated to delivering the best results possible.
  • Surgeon's Qualifications and Reputation: The overall cost of the treatment can be significantly influenced by the LASIK surgeon's skill and reputation. Surgeons with extensive training and experience can typically fetch greater costs because of their knowledge, accuracy, and guarantee of a good result. Reputable LASIK doctors with a history of successful procedures and happy patients may command higher fees for their services. Patients frequently consider the surgeon's reputation to be of utmost importance when selecting a LASIK provider.
  • Preoperative Assessment and Postoperative Management: A thorough preoperative assessment is a crucial part of laser eye surgery. Several tests are performed as part of this examination to evaluate the patient's eye health, measure the amount of refractive error, and find any underlying disorders that could have an impact on the surgery. In a similar vein, post-operative care is essential for tracking the healing process and managing any possible issues. Clinics may charge more to cover the additional services and resources required for comprehensive preoperative examinations and careful postoperative care.
  • The location and infrastructure of the clinic: The cost of the operation can be greatly influenced by the LASIK clinic's location. Modern institutions or clinics in desirable locations may have greater running expenses, such as rent, utilities, and maintenance. These expenses are frequently included in the total cost of laser eye surgery. Nonetheless, patients could discover that the comfort, accessibility, and ease offered by reputable clinics with state-of-the-art facilities outweigh the additional cost.
  • Customization and Additional Services: Since there is no one-size-fits-all method for LASIK surgery, customization is essential to achieving the best possible results. More precise vision correction is achieved by customized mapping of each eye's distinct characteristics using advanced LASIK techniques like Wavefront-guided LASIK. Clinics that provide extra services and customization could charge more to cover the cost of upgraded equipment and individualized treatment.

LASIK eye surgery, also known as Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is the most well-known and frequently performed laser refractive procedure for correcting vision problems. It serves as an alternative to glasses or contact lenses.

During LASIK surgery, a specialized cutting laser reshapes the cornea, the dome-shaped transparent tissue at the front of the eye.

In normal vision, the cornea refracts light precisely onto the retina at the back of the eye. However, in cases of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, the light is refracted incorrectly, resulting in blurred vision.

While glasses or contact lenses can correct these vision issues, reshaping the cornea through LASIK surgery can provide the necessary refraction to correct vision.

Which Conditions are treated by the LASIK surgery:

LASIK surgery may be an option for correcting the following vision problems:

  • Nearsightedness (Myopia): Nearsightedness occurs when the eyeball is slightly longer than normal or the cornea curves too sharply. This causes light rays to focus in front of the retina, resulting in blurry distant vision. Close objects can be seen clearly, but objects in the distance appear blurry.
  • Farsightedness (Hyperopia): Farsightedness occurs when the eyeball is shorter than average or the cornea is too flat. This causes light to focus behind the retina instead of on it, resulting in blurry near vision and sometimes blurry distant vision.
  • Astigmatism: Astigmatism is caused by the cornea curving or flattening unevenly, which affects the focus of both near and distant vision.

Types

  • LASIK: This is the most famous form of laser eye surgery. It involves creating a hinged flap in the cornea using a sterile blade. The surgeon then uses a laser to remove very thin layers of the cornea.
  • Intra-LASIK: In this procedure, the surgeon uses a laser to cut and reshape the cornea, rather than using a blade.
  • Wavefront LASIK: It is one of the most advanced and latest techniques. It involves producing a 3-dimensional map of the cornea using a scan. This surgery is more accurate, increasing the chances of achieving 20/20 vision.

Process Involved for LASIK

  • Preoperative stage: This includes a comprehensive eye exam, corneal mapping, and thickness assessments to establish eye health and prescription.
  • Surgical Stage: Numbing eye drops are applied first, followed by a laser to create a corneal flap, reshape the cornea, and reposition the flap.
  • Postoperative Stage: Improved vision within hours, with follow-up sessions to assess healing.
  • Long-Term Recovery: With adequate care, vision will stabilise after 3-6 months.
  • Nearsightedness (Myopia)
  • Farsightedness (Hyperopia)
  • Astigmatism
  • Presbyopia
  • Individuals aged 18 or older having steady vision for at least a year.
  • Those with treatable myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism.
  • People in generally good health, with no uncontrolled diabetes, autoimmune illnesses, or severe dry eye syndrome.
  • Improved vision: LASIK can improve vision and minimise or eliminate the need for glasses or contacts.
  • Quick recovery: Most patients see improvement in their vision within 24 to 48 hours of surgery, with minimum downtime.
  • Long-lasting outcomes: LASIK offers long-term vision correction, with benefits that can persist for years.
