An advanced imaging technique called a cerebral angiogram is used to examine the blood arteries in the brain and neck. It helps in the diagnosis of vascular disorders such as aneurysms, blockages, and strokes. After injecting a contrast dye into the arteries, fluoroscopy, a type of X-ray imaging, produces fine-grained pictures of blood flow.
- Insertion of the Catheter: Following administering a local anaesthetic, a catheter is placed into an artery in your wrist or groin and led to the brain via the blood arteries.
- Contrast Injection: A contrast dye is injected through a catheter to make the blood vessels in the brain visible on an X-ray.
- Imaging: To find anomalies or obstructions, a series of quick X-ray pictures, or angiograms, is obtained.
- Completion: The catheter is removed, and pressure is administered to halt the bleeding when imaging has finished.
