- Preoperative Investigations and Tests: Blood tests, along with CT and/or MRI scans are done to identify where the adhesions are located and how extensive they are, so that the surgeon can plan how they intend to perform the operation.
- Bowel Preparation and Anesthesia Evaluation: If bowel preparation is necessary, the patient may be required to fast prior to the surgery. An anesthesiologist also evaluates the patient's fitness to have a general anesthetic.
- Removal of Surgical Adhesions: During surgery, the Surgeon removes the bands of scar tissue causing the adhesions, either laparoscopically or through open surgery. The Surgery takes place while the patient is under general anesthesia.
- Examination of Abdominal Organs: To ensure that all of the organs in the abdomen have been fully released from any adhesion and to restore normal movement to all of the organs, each of the abdominal organs is examined during the Surgery.
- Post-Surgery Care and Pain Management: After Surgery, the patient will be monitored to ensure there is no bowel obstruction, infection, or inadequate pain management.
