After surgery, the gas is released, and incisions are typically closed with sutures or adhesive strips.
The choice between traditional and laparoscopic appendectomy depends on factors like the patient's condition and the surgeon's preference. Laparoscopic surgery generally involves smaller incisions, shorter recovery time, and less post-operative pain.

Recovery from Appendectomy

Following surgery, you'll be monitored in the recovery room until vital signs stabilize. Depending on the procedure and anesthesia, once alert and stable, you'll be transferred to your hospital room or discharged if it's an outpatient laparoscopic appendectomy. Pain medication will be provided through prescription or intravenously, and you may have a nasogastric tube for stomach fluid drainage. Mobilization typically begins soon after surgery, and a gradual return to eating and drinking is initiated. A follow-up appointment is scheduled 2 to 3 weeks post-surgery.
