A meniscal repair, also known as an arthroscopic meniscectomy, is a keyhole surgery used to replace a torn meniscus. It involves arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery to remove part or all of a meniscus from the knee's tibio-femoral joint. Meniscectomy can be performed partially, removing only a portion of the meniscus, or completely, removing both the meniscus and the meniscal rim. This might be anything from a small amount of frayed edge trimming to taking off the rim. When a meniscal tear is too extensive to be repaired surgically, a minimally invasive technique called meniscal resurfacing is commonly performed as an outpatient in a one-day clinic.

Minor meniscus tears can heal on their own if there is adequate blood supply to the area. However, some tears may require arthroscopic surgery for proper repair. Rest is crucial for ligament healing, and using ice packs along with physical therapy can aid in the recovery process.
Each knee has two menisci, which are rubbery, C-shaped cushions that act as shock absorbers in the knee joint. If a meniscus is injured or torn (often referred to as torn cartilage), your healthcare provider may recommend surgery to remove or repair the damaged part.
