How Much Does Normal Delivery Cost in Jordan?

The cost of a Normal Delivery in Jordan generally ranges between USD 1500 - USD 3000, depending on the hospital type (public vs. private), the obstetrician's experience, the need for labour-inducing medications, and the level of maternity and neonatal care required during childbirth.

Costs may also vary based on whether the delivery is entirely natural or requires assisted methods such as vacuum or forceps.

Additional expenses such as prenatal investigations, ultrasounds, laboratory tests, anaesthesia (if used), post-delivery medications, mother-and-baby monitoring, room charges, follow-up consultations, and management of any unexpected complications during labour may also contribute to the final overall treatment cost.

Factors Influencing the Cost of Normal Delivery

  • Mother’s Health Condition: Pre-existing conditions may require additional medical management, increasing the overall cost.
  • Hospital or Maternity Centre Standards: Hospitals with advanced neonatal units, modern labour rooms, and higher safety standards typically charge more for delivery services.
  • Obstetrician’s Expertise: Highly experienced obstetricians or specialists with advanced training in maternal-fetal care may have higher professional fees.
  • Pre-Delivery Evaluations: Routine tests such as ultrasounds, blood panels, urine tests, fetal monitoring, and non-stress tests add to the initial cost of care.
  • Anaesthesia or Pain Management Options: Although normal delivery may not require anaesthesia, some mothers opt for epidural analgesia, which can increase the overall cost.
  • Use of Advanced Technology: Equipment such as continuous fetal monitoring, advanced birthing aids, or specialised labour room technology may add to the expense.
  • Medications During Labour: Drugs used for inducing labour, managing pain, or controlling bleeding contribute to the total cost.
  • Hospital Stay Duration: A longer post-delivery stay, especially if minor complications arise, may increase room, nursing, and newborn care charges.
  • Newborn Care Requirements: Additional costs may apply for neonatal screenings, vaccinations, paediatric assessments, or NICU support if required.
  • Management of Complications: If complications such as excessive bleeding, maternal infection, or fetal distress occur, additional interventions may increase the total cost.
  • Follow-Up Visits: Post-delivery check-ups, wound assessments, lactation consultations, and newborn follow-ups contribute to ongoing expenses.

A vaginal delivery occurs when a person gives birth through the vagina, which is the most common method of childbirth. During vaginal birth, the uterus contracts to thin and open the cervix, allowing the infant to enter the birth canal.

Doctors generally prefer vaginal deliveries as they are generally the safest option for both the baby and the birthing person. Normall deliveries most commonly occur between weeks 37 and 42 of pregnancy.

Stages of Vaginal Delivery

A vaginal delivery can be divided into three stages: labor, birth, and delivering the placenta.

The first stage of labor begins with uterine contractions and ends when the cervix is fully dilated to 10 centimeters and completely effaced.

Labor is further divided into three phases: early labor, active labor, and transitional labor.

Early Labor: This phase starts with the onset of contractions as the cervix begins to dilate and efface. By the end of early labor, the cervix is typically about 5 centimeters dilated.

Active Labor: During this phase, contractions become stronger, lasting up to one minute each and occurring about three minutes apart. Many individuals request an epidural for pain relief during active labor. Healthcare providers may also administer oxytocin to accelerate labor.

Transitional Labor: This is the brief but intense phase just before the cervix is fully dilated to 10 centimeters. Contractions during transitional labor are very strong, come rapidly, and last longer than one minute. This phase may cause sweating, vomiting, or feelings of shakiness. It occurs just before the pushing stage.

Birth

The birthing stage begins when the cervix is fully dilated and ends with the baby’s birth. During this stage, you will experience strong contractions and start pushing. You may feel pressure or the urge to have a bowel movement. Your healthcare provider may coach you through pushing, especially if you've had an epidural and can't feel the contractions. This phase can last from a few minutes to a few hours, often quicker if you've had a prior vaginal delivery.

Delivering the Placenta

The final stage of labor is delivering the placenta, also known as afterbirth. This begins after the baby is born and ends when the placenta is delivered. Your healthcare provider may ask you to push a few more times. This stage typically starts a few minutes after the baby’s birth and can last up to 30 minutes.

It’s important to remember that labor and childbirth vary for each person. Factors such as receiving an epidural, whether it’s your first baby, the size and position of the baby, and the rate of cervical dilation can all influence the duration of a vaginal delivery.

Types of Normal Deliveries

There are different types of vaginal deliveries: spontaneous, induced, and assisted.

Spontaneous Vaginal Delivery: This occurs naturally without the use of labor-inducing drugs.

Induced Vaginal Delivery: In this case, Labor is initiated by using medicines or other techniques to prepare the cervix and start contractions. This is also known as labor induction.

Assisted Vaginal Delivery: This involves the use of forceps or a vacuum device to help deliver the baby. Both spontaneous and induced vaginal deliveries can be assisted if necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

The cost of Normal Delivery in Jordan typically ranges between USD 1500 - 3000, depending on the mother's health, pregnancy complications, hospital, obstetrician's experience, length of hospital stay, and additional services required. The cost may include consultations, prenatal tests, delivery charges, medications, hospitalization, and postpartum care.

Some of the best hospitals in Jordan for Normal Delivery include:
  • Arab Medical Center
  • Choose an experienced obstetrician or gynecologist who specializes in pregnancy and childbirth. Reviewing the doctor's qualifications, experience, hospital facilities, maternal and newborn care services, and patient feedback can help you make an informed decision. Seeking a second opinion may also be recommended when appropriate.

Normal Delivery has an overall success rate of approximately , depending on maternal health, fetal position, pregnancy complications, labor progression, and quality of obstetric care. The likelihood of successful vaginal delivery varies from patient to patient.

Normal Delivery is generally safe, but potential complications include prolonged labor, heavy bleeding, infection, perineal tears, fetal distress, and the need for assisted delivery or emergency C-Section. The medical team continuously monitors the mother and baby to manage complications promptly.

Before travelling, gather your antenatal records, ultrasound reports, blood tests, previous pregnancy and delivery records, medication details, and passport. Complete an online consultation if available and discuss your expected delivery date, travel timing, hospital admission plan, and emergency arrangements with your obstetrician.

Yes, MediGence provides online consultations for international patients before travel. Obstetricians can review pregnancy records, ultrasound reports, medical history, and previous delivery details to assess the pregnancy and discuss the delivery plan. This also helps with estimated costs and travel guidance.

Patients should bring a valid passport, visa, antenatal records, ultrasound and fetal monitoring reports, laboratory results, previous pregnancy or delivery records, blood group information, and a list of current medications. These documents help the obstetric team provide appropriate care.

Most international patients may need to stay in Jordan for approximately 1 to 2 weeks, including prenatal evaluation, delivery, postpartum monitoring, and follow-up. The exact duration depends on the mother's and baby's health and the expected delivery plan.

Recovery after Normal Delivery is generally faster than after a C-Section. Most women can gradually resume normal activities within a few days to weeks, although complete postpartum recovery may take longer. The recovery period depends on the delivery experience and any complications.
