How Much Does a Laparoscopic Abdominal Hysterectomy Cost in Vietnam?

The cost of a Laparoscopic Abdominal Hysterectomy in Vietnam typically ranges between USD 2500 - USD 6000. The final cost may vary depending on the underlying gynaecological condition, whether the ovaries or fallopian tubes are also removed, the complexity of the surgery, the hospital chosen, and the surgeon’s expertise.

Additional factors such as hospital stay duration, pre-surgical investigations, medications, and post-operative care can further influence the overall treatment cost.

Factors Influencing the Cost of Laparoscopic Abdominal Hysterectomy

  • Type and Complexity of Surgery: The cost depends on whether a total hysterectomy, subtotal hysterectomy, or hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of ovaries and tubes) is performed.
  • Hospital and Location: Hospitals in major cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City generally charge more due to advanced laparoscopic facilities, international patient services, and higher standards of care. Private hospitals are usually more expensive than public hospitals.
  • Surgeon’s Expertise: Highly experienced gynaecologists or laparoscopic surgeons, especially those trained internationally, may have higher professional fees due to better outcomes and lower complication rates.
  • Pre-Treatment Tests: Diagnostic tests such as pelvic ultrasound, blood tests, Pap smear, endometrial biopsy, or MRI (in selected cases) increase the overall cost.
  • Post-Surgical Care: Post-operative medications, pain management, follow-up consultations, and recovery support contribute to the final treatment cost.
  • Length of Hospital Stay: Laparoscopic hysterectomy typically requires 2-4 days of hospitalisation, but complex cases may need longer observation.

“Laparoscopic hysterectomy” is a minimally invasive procedure alternative to traditional abdominal hysterectomy. Studies have shown that patients undergoing laparoscopic hysterectomy experience reduced pain, bleeding, and risk of infection, and they typically recover more quickly, returning to work and normal activities sooner compared to those undergoing abdominal hysterectomy.

During laparoscopic hysterectomy, a vaginal hysterectomy is performed using a laparoscope, which is a thin, flexible tube equipped with a video camera. Small incisions are made near the navel, through which thin tubes are inserted. The uterus is then removed either in sections through the laparoscope tube or the vagina.

In “Robot-Assisted Laparoscopic Hysterectomy”, the laparoscope and instruments are inserted using robotic arms controlled by a computer station, allowing for more precise movements and enhanced surgical capabilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

This procedure is commonly performed to treat:
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Endometriosis
  • Adenomyosis
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Uterine prolapse
  • Early-stage gynaecological cancers
  • The surgeon makes small incisions in the abdomen and inserts a laparoscope (camera) along with specialised instruments. The uterus is carefully detached and removed through the vagina or small abdominal incisions, resulting in less pain and quicker recovery compared to open surgery.

The surgery is generally safe, but possible risks include infection, bleeding, injury to nearby organs (bladder or bowel), blood clots, or anaesthesia-related complications. Minimally invasive techniques significantly reduce these risks.

Most patients can resume light activities within 1–2 weeks and return to regular daily routines within 4–6 weeks, depending on their overall health and postoperative care.

Other costs may include extended hospital stay, additional diagnostic tests, medications after discharge, follow-up visits, and treatment of complications, if any. International patients should also budget for travel, accommodation, and interpreter services.

Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are the preferred cities due to their advanced medical infrastructure and experienced gynaecology specialists.

    Vietnam offers:
  • Affordable surgical costs
  • Modern laparoscopic technology
  • Skilled and experienced gynaecologists
  • Short waiting periods
  • High-quality post-operative care
  • The success rate is very high, with most patients experiencing complete symptom relief, minimal complications, and faster recovery when experienced surgeons perform the procedure.
