Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, are swollen veins located in the anus and lower rectum, similar to varicose veins. Hemorrhoids can develop inside the rectum, known as internal hemorrhoids, or under the skin around the anus, known as external hemorrhoids.

Surgery is particularly for large-sized internal, painful external, or hemorrhoids with heavy bleeding, prolapse, or complications like thrombosis.

You should seek a doctor's help immediately if you experience persistent rectal bleeding, pain on bowel movement, itching, swelling, or if you feel a lump around the anus. In a stapled hemorrhoidopexy, the hemorrhoids are lifted and stapled back into position, cutting off the blood supply and making them shrink. The option is based on the severity and position of the hemorrhoids.

The majority of hemorrhoid procedures last 30 to 60 minutes. Typically, it is a daycare case, and you can go home on the day of surgery unless there are any complications.
