The treatment for varicose veins is usually focused on enhancing the appearance of the affected body part and alleviating discomfort and pain. This can be done by elevation, elastic stockings, injection therapy, laser therapy, or vein surgery. During the injection therapy, the healthcare provider injects a chemical solution into the veins. This solution causes the walls of the vein to stick together. The veins eventually turn into scar tissue and disappear. In the case of laser therapy, endovenous thermal ablation is used to close the damaged vein. It is a minimally invasive technique. During vein surgery, the surgeon follows the ligation and stripping methods. In this, the veins are tied off to stop blood flow from pooling. This method stops varicose veins from reappearing.
Varicose vein treatment is exclusively performed to treat the bulging varicose veins that are occurring due to pooling blood in the leg. The procedure can also help alleviate symptoms like heaviness in the legs, itching, pain, swelling, and skin discolorations.
Usually, the recovery after varicose vein treatment is quick. It is suggested by the care team to rest for at least 7 days post-varicose treatment to avoid bruising, pain, and excessive bleeding. You will also be recommended to keep the legs at an elevated level above the heart for nearly 15 minutes at least twice a day. The recovery may take longer after surgery compared to minimally invasive treatment approaches.
