A 51-year-old patient from Ghana, Patrick Nyumah came to India on his own to get treated at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital. This was preceded by pre-treatment consultations with the doctor wherein the patient expressed to the good doctor the signs and symptoms, and the details of his condition. During this consultation process, the doctor recommended to the patient to get Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication Surgery as a solution to his suffering. The patient, with the assistance of MediGence wherein he first began his consultations with the doctor, planned the journey to India.
Pre Treatment & Process
The patient arrived on 9th January 2021 and was admitted to the hospital immediately. Mr. Patrick Nyumah stayed for three days in Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, an integrated multidisciplinary healthcare institution. As soon as the patient got admitted to the hospital, he underwent some pre-treatment tests such as a barium swallow, esophageal pH monitoring, manometry, endoscopy, or upper gastrointestinal (GI) series, echocardiography (ECG), chest x-ray, and blood tests. Dr. Aloy Mukherjee performed Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication Surgery to alleviate the symptoms the patient was suffering from such as severe heartburn, digestion problem, and esophagus irritation. Dr. Aloy Mukherjee is one of the best Laparoscopic surgeons with expertise in Minimal Access & General Surgery, GI Surgery & Robotic Bariatric Surgery. The surgery began post-General Anaesthesia and the duration of the procedure was three hours.
A minimally invasive procedure, Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication was performed on the patient so that the lower esophageal sphincter (the valve between the esophagus and the stomach) works well.
Post Treatment
The patient started experiencing recovery almost immediately post the surgery with acid reflux symptoms coming down. Mr. Patrick Nyumah benefitted from faster recovery, less pain and a shorter hospital stay after the procedure. The surgery was successfully performed without any post-treatment complications which spoke to the excellence of the treatment process, the doctor, his team, and the hospital. MediGence as an organization really came through for the patient by making the entire process hassle-free, by being a single source of contact for the patient in every way possible during the journey and the treatment.
The patient stayed in India for a total of two weeks and this meant a ten-day post-treatment recovery period where in-person consultations were also done. MediGence made sure that the follow-up consultations were organized for the patient. Overall the patient was really satisfied with his treatment and his experience with healthcare in India.
