Introduction

Master Aaron Larhubarbe, an 8-year-old boy from Mauritius has had eye issues for some time. As issues deteriorated, he started to experience blurred vision. The mother of Aaron adored her son and was determined to do whatever it took to make him happy again. About six months prior to the procedure, she made the decision to speak with MediGence to discuss the medical concern. She even sought the advice of other neighborhood physicians, who determined that the problem was corneal injury. According to the diagnosis, the cornea’s deterioration was to blame. Aaron needed a corneal transplant to treat his visual impairment, which was the only available treatment option.

His mother called MediGence after receiving the diagnosis to learn more about cornea transplantation in India. She initially conducted her research online and discovered that one of the top facilities for the treatment of corneal injury was Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad. The medical professional in charge of providing that particular treatment was Dr. Rajesh Fogla. She made the decision to travel to India with her son and her mother (Aaron’s grandmother) to receive treatment from Dr. Rajesh Fogla.

One of Hyderabad’s best ophthalmologists, Dr. Rajesh Fogla has over 25 years of expert medical experience. He offers top-notch therapies for cataracts (phacoemulsification, toric multifocal IOL), corneal disease (corneal transplantation, anterior lamellar keratoplasty, including ALTK, DALK, etc.), and refractive surgery (LASIK,  Prelex, phakic IOL, presbyopia correction). The physician belongs to a number of reputable international organizations.

One of Hyderabad’s renowned hospitals, Apollo Health City, is adept at providing the full spectrum of medical care, from diagnosing and treating illnesses to ensuring full recovery. As a result, it distinguishes itself as a total health city rather than only a medical facility. Renal conditions, emergency services, neurosciences, eye and cosmetic surgery, and cardiovascular and joint diseases are among the areas of excellence. They are skilled in managing life-threatening situations and give each patient excellent care while upholding strict safety standards. In 2011, it received the AHMA (Asian Hospital Management Award). 2013 saw the launch of Apollo Health.

Pre-Treatments and Surgical Procedure

One of the most complex and expensive operations is cornea transplant surgery. India imports cornea from its neighbors for use in transplant procedures. The procedure can only be performed in India on a small number of foreigners. For the surgery, MediGence recommended to Philips a number of hospitals and eye clinics. But in the end, she chose to bill the son’s care to Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad. On 15 May 2022, Master Aaron traveled to India with his mother and grandmother.

Master Aaron was escorted to Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad, and given a bed because the procedure was supposed to take place the following day. His mother and grandmother received additional assistance from MediGence when it reserved a room close to the hospital from which she could visit her son whenever necessary. MediGence successfully handled all of the airport transfers, secured lodging for them, and altered the appointment dates with only a short notice.

Prior to the procedure, Dr. Rajesh Fogla performed some standard lab tests and discovered that the patient’s overall health was good and the surgery could go forward. Master Aaron was advised to take any medications or to stop if he was taking any at all. He received antibiotic eye drops the day before the procedure to guard against any infection. Aaron was anxious the day of the procedure, but his mother reassured him. After giving the local anesthetic, the surgeon operated on him with great efficiency. The procedure lasted about 45 minutes.

Post Treatment

Master Aaron had to wear an eye patch for four days. He was a day care patient in the hospital and spent a total of 14 days in the country. This patch aids in the cornea’s natural healing process. For a few days, the eye area hurt and felt sore, but he gradually healed and, he, his mother, and his grandmother boarded a flight back to Mauritius as a very happy boy who had regained his clear vision. For Aaron and our crew, it was a true moment of joy and thankfulness.
