At 26, Filip from Sweden was dealing with an unknown and complicated condition that was taking away his life. He had a very overwhelming and extensive list of symptoms: chronic fatigue, headaches, neck cracking, blurred vision, dizziness, muscle twitching, tightness in his jaw and neck and a disturbing imbalance in his head. Not only did this condition take a toll on him concerning physical pain, but it also caused cognitive damage. He was experiencing memory loss and upset with his attention and capacity to focus, making even the simplest of exercises feel like an insurmountable task.
The doctors in Sweden diagnosed him with cervical instability between C4-C7, chronic soft tissue injury, and a malhealed muscle tear in the left upper trapezius. Yet, it did not stop there. He was exhibiting signs of neurological dysfunction and autonomic dysregulation that amplified the damage to his nervous system, activating it beyond its capacity to self-regulate. Our 28-year-old vantage point on his condition was filled with worry and best illustrated by despair as Filip searched for unclear resources online for relief.
Finally, after a few months of deliberating this issue, he found MediGence, where he consulted with Arhama, a medical case manager who was aware of his complexity and immediately reviewed his report, symptoms and referred Filip to Vejthani Hospital in Thailand, a reputable hospital for advanced neurological and spinal treatment.
Following a virtual consultation and review by leading neurologists and spine physicians, a formal treatment plan was developed. Filip would be under the care of Dr. Pattara and Dr. Ekkapot Jitpun, both of whom are leaders in the field of minimally invasive spine and nerve procedures. With reassurance from leading experts and a complex treatment plan in place, Filip chose to travel to Thailand.
On 14th June 2025, Filip arrived in Thailand. Though it was a long journey, and he continued to experience discomfort from the soft tissue damage, Filip was welcomed with both warmth and professionalism. A patient care coordinator arranged airport transportation. Hours later, he was comfortably placed in a patient room at Vejthani Hospital. After settling in, the multidisciplinary medical team began conducting new evaluations, scans, and neurological tests to verify the pre-assessment and personalise his treatment.
Hospital staff made sure that Filip was never alone. He received counselling and emotional support to assist in coping with what chronic pain had taken from him for many years. Following the detailed assessment, the doctors performed a nerve block procedure, focusing on the areas of inflammation and damage along the cervical spine. This minimally invasive approach aimed to help break the pain signals triggered by the instability and soft tissue damage.
Afterwards, the team continued with nerve stimulation therapy, an advanced procedure that applies low-level electrical impulses to provide pain relief and recovery functions. The objective was to alleviate chronic pain while helping the neuromuscular system re-educate the affected nerves and promote healing of the injured muscle and connective tissues.
Filip remained in medical observation for seven days while receiving daily physiotherapy, neurological assessments, and pain observation. After undergoing interventional treatment and supportive therapy, Pilip obtained 60% pain relief, which was something he had not felt for years.
The Vejthani team not only provided him with clinical treatment but also helped him with a rehabilitation plan that featured proper posture, mobility exercises, dietary restrictions, and ongoing treatment with follow-up appointments. Through counselling sessions, he was able to find emotional clarity that assisted him in coping with the years of struggle and uncertainty.
For Filip, it was more than the reduction in physical symptoms; it was about regaining his independence and identity. His dizziness decreased, his neck tightness eased, and his cognitive clarity increased, helping him to feel optimistic again. The shackling fear of losing control of his own body started to lessen.
Filip returned to Sweden after 30 days in Thailand with a fresh perspective. The journey to recovery was still underway, but he was on the right track. Treatment had lifted him from the downward cycle of chronic pain and replaced it with hope, energy, and motivation to keep his eyes forward on healing. He had pain for the first time in years that was manageable, and a clear mind.
