Lawrence, a 45-year-old man from Uganda, had been living with knock knees that gradually began to affect his mobility and quality of life. The condition was associated with persistent pain and increasing difficulty walking, making everyday movement challenging.
Seeking a solution that could improve his mobility and reduce his discomfort, Lawrence decided to explore specialised orthopaedic care abroad. He connected with MediGence through the website on September 1, 2024, looking for a reliable treatment pathway and access to experienced medical professionals.
Lawrence's case was handled by Dr Vijita, his Patient Advisor at MediGence. After reviewing his medical needs and understanding the difficulties he was experiencing, the team helped him explore suitable treatment options in India.
India was recommended as his treatment destination, and Lawrence selected Artemis Hospital, Sector 51, Gurugram, for his procedure. A consultation with the treating doctor was also arranged before his travel, allowing him to better understand the proposed treatment and prepare for his medical journey.
With the treatment plan and travel arrangements coordinated in advance, Lawrence travelled to India on September 24, 2024.
Lawrence spent approximately 90 days in India, including five days at the hospital.
At Artemis Hospital, he underwent bow-leg correction surgery using a non-robotic approach. The procedure was performed to correct the alignment of his legs, improve his posture, and address the pain and mobility difficulties associated with his condition.
The surgery marked an important step toward restoring better lower-limb alignment and making everyday movement more comfortable.
Lawrence also opted for rehabilitation services following his surgery. Rehabilitation played an important role in helping him adapt to the corrected alignment, improve mobility, and gradually regain functional movement.
Through continued rehabilitation and medical follow-up, he worked to strengthen his lower limbs and become more comfortable with walking and daily activities.
The combination of surgical correction and rehabilitation provided a comprehensive pathway for his recovery.
MediGence supported Lawrence beyond arranging his medical treatment. The team coordinated airport transfers and accommodation, helping reduce the logistical challenges associated with travelling internationally for healthcare.
Additional assistance was also provided throughout his journey, allowing Lawrence to focus more closely on his treatment and recovery while the practical aspects of his stay were coordinated.
Lawrence experienced a positive outcome following his bow-leg correction surgery and rehabilitation. He reported better posture and reduced pain, representing meaningful improvements compared with the difficulties he experienced before treatment.
The reduction in discomfort and improvement in alignment helped him move toward greater independence and improved mobility.
His journey from Uganda to India demonstrates how timely orthopaedic intervention, structured rehabilitation, and coordinated medical travel support can come together to help patients address mobility-limiting conditions.
Lawrence's experience reflects the importance of choosing the right treatment pathway when a musculoskeletal condition begins to interfere with everyday life.
From his initial consultation and pre-travel doctor appointment to surgery, rehabilitation, accommodation, and airport transfer support, MediGence helped coordinate his medical journey in India.
We are pleased to have supported Lawrence throughout his treatment and recovery and wish him continued improvement, mobility, and a more active life ahead.
