8-months-old baby Abdullahi Ibrahim, resident of Nigeria, suffered seizures since birth that made his parents very concerned. The baby was also not able to keep his neck upright. Understanding the challenges faced by the baby and his parent's concerns, his uncle Dr. M. S. Abbas Md., started looking online for the best options for the babyâs treatment when he came across MediGence. He submitted his query via the webform available on MediGence website. Upon receiving his query, MediGence got in touch with him for discussion in a quick turn-around.
Dr. Abbas also shared all the medical reports of the child over the email. Understanding it to be a case of Pediatric Neurology, MediGence gave him an option of 3 leading hospitals in India. Upon close review and considering the recommendation by MediGence, Dr. Abbas selected Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, India for the treatment of baby Abdullahi under the care of Dr. Vineet Bhushan Gupta, who is an acclaimed Pediatric Neurologist and Pediatrician. Dr. Gupta has an experience of more than 28 Years.
Baby Abdullahi arrived in India on the 24th of November, 2019 accompanied by his mother. They were received and comfortably accommodated in a Guest House by MediGence team. The next day, they went for the consultation with Dr. Gupta. Dr. Gupta examined the baby and his previous medical records, and diagnosed that the baby has a condition known as Infantile Spasm.
Infantile Spasms (IS), also known as West Syndrome, is a seizure disorder that affects children and infants in which the seizures (or spasms) make the muscles in the arms and legs stiff, therefore bending the babyâs head forward. The stiffness is caused by unusual electrical activity in the brain. In this condition, the baby might always look startled and it usually also leads to a delay in the development activities like sitting, babbling or crawling. After the diagnosis, Baby Abdullahi was admitted to the hospital for proper neurological assessment and some tests. Post the test evaluation was completed, the baby was prescribed medicines and injections for his condition. Thereafter, Baby Abdullahi underwent the prescribed injections for a week and further continued the medication recommended by the doctor. She also appreciated the overall medical assistance and medical travel management provided to them by MediGence starting from the selection of the right hospital and doctor for her babyâs treatment until their return back. Thereafter, they returned back to their home country Nigeria on 23th of December, 2019. MediGence wishes baby Abdullahi a happy and healthy future!
