From Heavy Bleeding to Successful Treatment: Quionda Monique Perkins’ Journey in India

The 44-year-old Quionda Monique Perkins from the USA had been facing issues, including heavy menstrual bleeding and recurrent pain. Following a diagnosis of a tumor in her uterus and an ovarian cyst, she started looking for treatment options in specialist centres in India.

She visited Aster Kochi, where she met with Dr. Mayadevi Kurup S to determine an appropriate treatment course. A hysterectomy was already in mind, but the next phase required a thorough examination to determine whether the surgery would proceed as expected or if there were any other factors that could complicate it.

Following her evaluation, the initial concerns about surgical complexity were ruled out, and she was deemed suitable for surgery. She subsequently underwent the planned hysterectomy successfully and returned home satisfied with her treatment and overall outcome.

Living with Heavy Menstrual Bleeding and Pain

Quionda's medical journey began with symptoms that were affecting her well-being. She was experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding along with occasional severe pain.

Heavy menstrual flow can have different causes; one of them is uterine fibroids. Fibroids are benign tumors that form either in the uterus or on its outer wall. The fibroids can differ greatly in size, number, and location. Some fibroids may not cause symptoms, while others can cause painful periods, abdominal pain, discomfort, or pressure.

Quionda's medical diagnosis also indicated that she had an ovarian cyst, which is why it was crucial to perform a thorough medical examination before the surgery. In this case, it was not merely a diagnostic procedure; the aim of the medical examination was to identify an appropriate treatment to relieve the existing symptoms.

Seeking Specialist Care in India

On April 6, 2026, Quionda contacted MediGence through its website while searching for treatment options outside her country. Thus, began Quionda's journey from the USA to India, where she went to Aster Kochi for an assessment and treatment by a specialist on the recommendation of her case manager, Vanshika. She met with Dr. Mayadevi Kurup S, who examined her health condition and treated her for the planned surgery.

Going overseas for a major gynecological procedure involves some good planning. The patients need to provide their medical records and previous test reports, undergo additional tests, and discuss their planned procedure with their physician. For Quionda, this evaluation was especially significant because there had initially been concerns regarding the complexity of her surgery.

Confirming Her Eligibility for Surgery

Before her hysterectomy, Quionda went through a detailed consultation and evaluation.

One of the goals was to determine the status of her condition and evaluate whether she would be able to undergo the procedure. Worries about the surgery's complexity proved unfounded, and the doctors declared Quionda fit for the procedure.

By this point in her travels, Quionda had come to understand much more about the specifics of her case than she would have had she continued her treatment plan. Instead of going through with the treatment without any real examination of her condition, she got a chance to be examined by this group of doctors in India and the results of the investigation showed that a hysterectomy would be an appropriate protocol for her condition.

The evaluation process is crucial for patients having serious surgical procedures. The evaluation is an essential element of their treatment journey, as it provides an opportunity for their medical condition to be analysed by medical specialists.

The Hysterectomy Procedure

A hysterectomy is a procedure to remove your uterus. It may need to be carried out for various gynecological conditions when other treatment methods are not suitable or are not working, or a definitive treatment is deemed appropriate.

The type of surgery utilised will depend on factors such as the condition being treated, the size and location of the fibroids, your medical history, and the surgeon's decision.  In Quionda's case, hysterectomy was planned to treat her uterine fibroids and ovarian cyst. She was found eligible for surgery after being assessed by the doctor. Her trip to India lasted roughly five days, while two days were spent at the hospital.

The surgery was completed successfully. Her treatment outcome was recorded positively, and she reported being happy with both the treatment and the overall outcome. No complications were reported in the available case information. For Quionda, this was an important milestone after dealing with heavy menstrual bleeding and occasional severe pain.

A Journey Toward a Positive Outcome

Quionda's story began with symptoms that had affected her daily life and a diagnosis involving a uterine fibroid and ovarian cyst. She sought specialist medical care and travelled from the USA to India to explore an appropriate treatment option.

At Aster Kochi, her condition was carefully evaluated. Although there had initially been concerns regarding the complexity of surgery, these concerns were ruled out, and she was confirmed as suitable for hysterectomy. The procedure was subsequently completed successfully, with no complications reported in the available records. Quionda was happy with her treatment and overall outcome.

Quionda's journey included thorough assessments and treatment plans, international trips, and successful surgery. Her experience showcases how informed medical decision-making, specialist evaluation, and good cooperation with medical professionals assist patients in obtaining the necessary treatment.
