A Preventive Health Journey Focused on the Long-Term Well-Being of Naseer Al Naabi

At 46, Naseer Al Naabi from Oman always thought keeping your body functional meant keeping it healthy. Like many other working adults, he kept up with his daily routines while unknowingly living with the complications of diabetes and high blood pressure for years. After some years of experiencing some subtle symptoms and some routine tests that were not normal, he became aware that he probably had early chronic kidney disease. Therefore, instead of waiting for complications or problems to arise, Naseer chose to be proactive and take his health into his own hands by utilising preventive measures.

However, with the most recent testing suggesting that he might be having some kidney function loss, he became concerned. Additionally, with fatigue, occasional swelling, and fluctuating blood sugar levels, he was even more convinced that he needed a complete evaluation to determine his overall physical condition. His search led to finding MediGence and, through it, his case manager, Usama. Based on the consultation and discussion process, India was identified as the best country for Naseer’s medically-based evaluation due to its ability to provide advanced diagnostic techniques, experienced specialist physicians, and patient-centred care design.

Rajagiri Hospital was selected as the provider of care within India based on its established reputation in internal medicine, nephrology, and preventive medicine. This multidisciplinary approach would allow for a comprehensive evaluation of Naseer's chronic illnesses (i.e. diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease) versus the traditional silos that exist among health providers. Travel arrangements were handled seamlessly (including both the airport transfer and appointment scheduling), thereby minimising the stress of navigating international travel while maximising overall efficiency.

Arrival in India for Evaluation

On September 7, 2025, after travelling to India, Naseer arrived at Rajagiri Hospital, where he was received and transferred in a comfortable manner, and the focus remained on delivering seamless coordination throughout continued care while developing a personalised experience for Naseer.

The initial evaluation consisted of the collection and evaluation of Naseer's past medical history and current medication list, plate of physical examination and the evaluation of type 1 and type 2 duration and control of both diabetes and hypertension. The duration and level of control of his diabetes and hypertension were determined to be two precipitants to his kidney disease; therefore, a detailed review of lifestyle factors, including diet, fluid intake, and compliance with medications, was performed.

An in-depth investigation of all organs, overall metabolic health, blood tests to evaluate kidney function and all metabolic markers, including glucose control, lipid profile, electrolyte balance, and urinalysis to check for protein loss from the kidneys and assess overall kidney function.

The results showed early signs of kidney injury, potentially due to long-standing diabetes and hypertension. It was noted that although the extent of the damage was not extensive, the patient would require careful treatment to slow further deterioration. In addition to identifying areas of weakness, the findings showed areas of strength for the patient, including stable cardiovascular function, controlled blood pressure within acceptable ranges, and no signs of acute complications. This comprehensive evaluation enabled physicians to shift from crisis intervention to prevention.

Treatment to be Done

With definitive results available, physicians developed a customized plan to manage this patient's health. The main management goal is to maintain kidney function while effectively managing both diabetes and hypertension.

To achieve successful diabetes/hypertension management, a significant part of the plan includes adjusting the patient’s medication dosage based on his kidney function. Most medications used in treating diabetes and/or hypertension need to be adjusted when renal (kidney) filtration is impaired. Each medication the patient was taking was assessed by the medical team to determine optimal dosing to maximise safety relative to the drug’s severity of effect.

An additional major factor was avoiding the use of nephrotoxic medications (those that could further stress the kidneys). Naseer had a conversation about which over-the-counter pain medications, antibiotics, or supplements to avoid, helping him make appropriate decisions for continued safety after returning home. In addition to prescriptive and report-type services, counselling was an integral part of Naseer's overall care, provided by physicians and healthcare practitioners who took the time to explain to him how diabetes, hypertension, and renal function are interconnected and what those connections mean for him in layman's terms.

Dietary counselling focused on reducing sodium intake, controlling protein intake, and keeping his blood sugars stable. Lifestyle counselling focused on the importance of drinking fluids, staying physically active, managing stress, and regularly checking his blood pressure and blood glucose levels.

Post Evaluation

During his entire stay in the hospital, Naseer received a number of coordinated supportive services, including transportation to and from the airport, scheduled appointments, and on-site assistance, so he could focus solely on recovering and learning, rather than worrying about logistics.

At the end of his five days of evaluation at Rajagiri Hospital, Naseer had more than a treatment plan; he had confidence. His early diagnosis and management of his kidney failure and optimisation of medications provided him with a roadmap to better health. Most importantly, he received the information and support he needed to take charge of his health. The initial routine health checkup became a critical intervention that will likely prevent severe illnesses in the future.

Conclusion

Naseer Al Naabi's experience illustrates the value of taking action early and the importance of comprehensive care for chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension; with proper monitoring & intelligent management, these chronic conditions do not have to lead to organ failure.

With a timely assessment and direction by an expert healthcare team, and a patient-centred approach to counselling, Naseer has taken control of the course of his disease. His experience reminds us that prevention is not just a medical approach but also an ongoing commitment to achieving a sustainable, high quality of life.
