Stroke Recovery Journey of 67 Years old Patient

Mr. Leonel Elias, a 67-year-old patient from Mozambique, was compelled to find his way in life when he developed a stroke. A very active man was taken by one of the worst symptoms that may follow a stroke - aphasia. He could not talk, communicate or gesture.This stroke damaged him severely and significantly in his daily life. He struggled to make simple requests and communicate ideas. He also had coordination problems, getting confused between left and right. His tongue muscles were weakened, so he could not hold his tongue over the palate. He needed to regain and recover the ability to speak, which means he was willing to find a solution to rebuild his life.

This search led him to MediGence, the medical facilitation service that would be significant in his healing process. Understanding the requirement of stroke rehabilitation, he contacted MediGence on 29th June 2024. He was then introduced to our appointed medical advisor, Dr. Vishwas. After consulting with his family and considering more options, it was concluded that India was the right place for Mr Leonel's rehabilitation. He was in India for 15 days.

It resumed on August 18, 2024, and Leonel set off for India with some hope. Mr. Leonel's first day at MediRehab was very friendly, and he got to know the friendly hospital staff and his attending physiotherapist, Dr. Vijita & Team, who had reviewed his medical records and symptoms study beforehand. For the first few days, his condition was evaluated, and physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy programs that met his special needs were developed and implemented to enable Leonel to regain strength in the affected muscles.

A Successful Stroke Treatment in 14 Days

The rehabilitation program aims to provide speech, physical, and occupational therapy. The hospital's high-technology equipment and skilled therapists ensured that Mr. Leonel's treatment was complete and sequential. Dr. Vijita & Team and the team provided treatment to Leonel to fit traditional therapy, which had a long, challenging process of healing and was complimented by modern approaches to regaining his ability to talk. He could pronounce short words.

Upon discharge from MediRehab, Mr. Leonel had improved his physical strength and vocal articulation considerably.
