A Journey from Seven Years of Infertility to a Twin Pregnancy in India

For Kadiatou Cissoko, a 32-year-old woman hailing from Guinea, the dream of expanding her family had been accompanied by years of uncertainty. She had been trying to get pregnant for the last 7 years but had been unsuccessful. Furthermore, she also suffered from irregular menstrual cycles. Hysteroscopy Before IVF

This was because it was deemed important to look at the uterus before embryo transfer, especially given her long infertility history. Following the evaluation, egg-donor IVF was recommended as part of Kadiatou's fertility treatment. In IVF, eggs and sperm are combined in a laboratory to create embryos, which can subsequently be transferred into the uterus. In an egg-donor IVF cycle, donor eggs are used to create embryos for transfer to the intended mother.

For Kadiatou, this represented a significant transition from years of unsuccessful attempts at conception to a structured assisted reproductive pathway. The treatment required careful coordination between the fertility team and Kadiatou, with the goal of achieving a viable pregnancy following embryo transfer.

A Positive IVF Result, and an Unexpected Complication

Kadiatou's IVF treatment produced a twin pregnancy, reaching a long-desired goal after seven years of trying to conceive unsuccessfully. Still, her experience did not lack complications.

After IVF, one of her embryos implanted in one of her fallopian tubes. This led to what is called an ectopic pregnancy, where the embryo becomes implanted somewhere else instead of its intended location in the uterus. Since ectopic pregnancies can present serious complications for the mother, they require fast medical intervention. In Kadiatou's case, the ectopic pregnancy was identified and surgically removed. Importantly, the second pregnancy continued successfully.

Although the ectopic pregnancy required surgical intervention, the other pregnancy continued to develop. This meant that Kadiatou's fertility journey involved both a major achievement and a significant medical challenge. After years of unsuccessful conception, she had achieved pregnancy through IVF, but one of the implanted embryos had resulted in an ectopic pregnancy. The successful continuation of the other pregnancy was therefore closely monitored by her medical team.

Kadiatou's time in India for treatment lasted around three months, during which her fertility treatment, pregnancy assessment, and the ectopic pregnancy were taken care of.
