Nikpi’s Road Back to Mobility: Restoring Stability and Independence

This is the story of Nikpi Melagne Martin, a 64-year-old man from the Ivory Coast whose life has been profoundly affected by longstanding hip problems. Nikpi had three hip surgeries since 2006 due to severe coxarthrosis, which was further complicated by repeated implant failures. As time went on, his condition deteriorated to the extent that he could neither stand nor walk, suffering from constant pain and numbness in his legs.

After a comprehensive evaluation, doctors confirmed a more severe underlying issue than initially anticipated. The diagnosis revealed severe acetabular and pelvic bone destruction, along with loosening and migration of the acetabular cup and cement, resulting in a loss of pelvic stability.

Given the complexity of the case, a highly specialised surgical approach was planned. The treatment involved removal of the loosened cup and cement, extensive tissue debridement, and reconstruction with a custom tumour prosthesis designed to restore stability and function to the pelvis and hip joint.
