Millicent's Journey: From Sierra Leone to New Hope in India

Sierra Leonean 4-year-old Millicent had to overcome several obstacles. Her inability to walk, speak, or react as expected for her age led to a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy and Delayed Milestones. Her parents were quite worried and looking for answers outside of their local area, but Medigence Health provided them with a glimmer of hope.

Connecting with Hope:

Millicent's family got in touch with Arhama, the Medigence Medical Advisor, on May 16, 2025. Understanding the urgency and complexity, Arhama acted swiftly. "I had a Google Meet with her parents firstly," Arhama recalls, "just to explain how this case needed to be handled." At Aakash Hospital in India, I promptly informed Dr. Amit Srivastava about Millicent's situation.

A Swift Path to Treatment:

It was a quick response. "Immediately within a week she travelled," says Arhama. It is noteworthy that on May 26, 2025, Millicent and her family reached India. Her transition to specialized care was made easy by the fact that her parents were already in India for other work. Arhama continues, "Then they connected with us for her treatment." "We guided them every step of the way."

Clarity and Confidence:

Before committing, Medigence made sure the family was informed and at ease. "We also planned a tour to the hospital," Arhama says, "so they could meet Dr. Srivastava and have a firsthand look at the institution. The doctor resolved all of their perplexity. Establishing trust required this personal touch.

The Treatment Journey:

At Aakash Hospital, Millicent received comprehensive assessments overseen by Dr. Amit Srivastava. The neurosurgery known as Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), which was advised and carried out, was intended to improve her mobility potential and lessen leg stiffness. She spent seven days in the hospital for the surgery and early recuperation.

Comprehensive Support:

Medigence's support extended far beyond medical coordination. "We helped them in everything," Arhama emphasizes. "We provided them assistance during their hospital visits." This included the crucial coordination of their Airport Transfer, ensuring a smooth arrival.

The Road to Recovery:

Millicent's journey didn't end with surgery. Her total stay in India is planned for 90 days to allow for intensive post-operative rehabilitation. She is currently undergoing crucial follow-up care and rehabilitation therapy in India, working hard to build strength and develop new skills unlocked by the SDR procedure.

A Parent's Testimonial:

"Our hearts were heavy seeing Millicent struggle. Finding Medigence was like finding a lifeline. Arhama understood our desperation immediately. She explained everything clearly and got us connected to Dr. Srivastava in India incredibly fast – we were here within a week of first speaking to her!

Medigence didn't just arrange the hospital; they took us there, let us meet the doctor face-to-face. Dr. Srivastava patiently answered every single worry we had. They helped us with every hospital visit, even getting us from the airport. Knowing we weren't alone in a foreign country meant everything.

Seeing Millicent go through the SDR surgery was scary, but we had faith in the team. Now, watching her in rehab, working so hard, we see little changes, little signs of progress we never dared to hope for before. It's a long road, but thanks to Arhama who made things much easier for us (Medical Advisor Medigence) and the fantastic team at Aakash Hospital, especially Dr. Srivastava, we finally have hope for our daughter's future. They truly helped us with everything."
