At 37 years old, Ignes Arbane, a feisty, independent woman from France, never suspected that an unsettling pain she experienced during sexual intercourse would turn into a long, heavy, and emotional medical journey. Ignes lived a healthy lifestyle, travelled often, worked actively, and hardly ever had health issues aside from a mild case of the flu when she was 21. But as life goes, problems come when least expected, and for Ignes, it all started with a mild yet persistent discomfort.
The pain first began as a sharp sting after intimacy, something she dismissed as temporary irritation or sensitivity at first. As the discomfort returned over and over again and accumulated into anxiety and fear over the possibility that it could be something more, Ignes began to feel that this was much more than she initially thought. This pain started to affect her relationship, her confidence, and her emotional wellness, and she felt afraid to reveal this pain to her partner. Simple moments of intimacy began to create feelings of fear and dread, rather than comfort, which was very confusing and disturbing.
She tried home remedies, over-the-counter pain meds, and finally, even intercourse vanished for a brief time, but nothing changed. However, the discomfort gradually worsened. It became more noticeable over time. Desperate for answers, Ignes sought help, and that is where her journey began.
Ignes contacted Dr. Vishwas through MediGence, and her initial consultation took place on 01/04/25. Ignes' concern with her symptoms, along with lesions, greatly worried the doctor; he urged Ignes to have a complete assessment as soon as possible.
In her consultation, she disclosed her symptoms, stating it was not only physical pain, but an emotional burden of uncertainty. What resonated with Ignes the most was the practitioner's tone of voice, non-judgmental and reassuring, and Ignes really liked that, especially given the sensitive nature of the subject.
Dr. Vishwas stated he thought it was genital warts based on the symptoms; a common condition for many people, but typically very emotionally charged because certain strains of HPV cause it. He encouraged Ignes to follow up at a facility (Hospital) that specialises in gynecology and dermatology, Krabi Nakharin Hospital in Thailand. Despite the notion that treatment can be scary and overwhelming, the added pressure of doing it outside the country and mixed feelings about the personal subject matter, Ignes trusted the process. Finally, with her partner's help, Ignes was able to overcome her concerns and prioritise her health, which led her to book her trip to Thailand.
On April 10th, 2025, Ignes arrived at Krabi Nakharin Hospital feeling both anxious and hopeful. The atmosphere, calm, professional, and supportive, relieved some of her worries. She was seen by Dr Pung, who listened to her symptoms before taking time to hear her medical history and ensuring that she was comfortable about discussing her intimate health.
After a thorough examination, the diagnosis was confirmed: genital warts as well as inflammation that is causing the pain with intercourse. Dr Pung reassured her that genital warts are common and treatable, and she had made the right choice in seeking help promptly.
The first part of the treatment plan consisted of the diagnosis and assessment, along with a course of antibiotics to treat the inflammation and pain. The medications helped, and after just a few days, Ignes noticed the burning and swelling had decreased. For the first time in weeks, she was also beginning to feel more relaxed physically. The next phase of treatment was to remove the warts using laser therapy, a typical and effective treatment.
Because of an issue with their hospital equipment, the laser machine was not working, so the warts were not treated. Ignes felt crushed; she travelled from France, overcame her own anxiety to confront a sensitive medical issue, and a technical issue completely outside her control stood in her way.
Ignes received the appropriate treatment under Dr. Kaushik's care. The necessary laser equipment was available, and the treatment was performed professionally and with care. Though she was understandably nervous, the doctor and nursing staff ensured she remained comfortable throughout.
The warts were removed safely and effectively. Ignes felt a tremendous sense of relief physically, mentally, and emotionally. It was the breakthrough she had been waiting for.
She followed her post-op instructions for postoperative care, used the topical cream as instructed, and slowly started to let her body heal over the next several days. Day by day, she was amazed at her progress. The pain she had been managing had diminished significantly, the discomfort following intercourse had disappeared, and she was beginning to feel some confidence returning in her life.
Looking back, Ignes recognises the importance of listening to her body and seeking help right away. What she thought was a minor inconvenience was a red flag. Many women do not seek help out of embarrassment or fear of judgment or being dismissed, but she will encourage them to leap to prioritise their health.
She learned that:
For her, it wasn't just about treating genital warts; it was about restoring authority, trust, and the value of correct medical care.
Ignes can now say, with pride, that she leads a healthy, pain-free life and continues to feel grateful for all the support she received throughout her experience. She is most thankful to Dr. Kaushik for his knowledge, compassion, and time invested in helping her heal from an arduous journey that included diagnosis and treatment. He exemplified the critical importance of caring, compassionate health care.
Her symptoms are resolved. Her confidence has been restored. And most importantly, she has taken control of her body and health again.
