CoolSculpting: Symptoms, Classification, Diagnosis & Recovery

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive fat reduction procedure that involves no anaesthesia, needles, or incisions. It’s based on the principle of cooling subcutaneous fat to the point that the fat cells are destroyed by the cooling process and absorbed by the body. CoolSculpting is based on cryolipolysis, which uses the cellular response to cold to break down fatty tissue. By extracting energy from fat layers, the process causes the fat cells to die gradually while leaving surrounding nerves, muscle, and other tissues unaffected. The common treatment areas are upper and lower abdomen, inner and outer thighs, flanks, arms, chin area, bra and back fat. A person should avoid cool sculpting if they have the following conditions loose skin, poor skin tone, cryoglobulinemia, cold urticaria etc.

The procedure doesn’t involve much preparation. However, it is essential that the person is in his/her ideal weight while this procedure is being performed. It is vital to understand that this isn’t a weight loss solution rather an inch loss solution. It is also advised to avoid anti-inflammatories such as Aspirin prior to the procedure.

CoolSculpting is performed by a doctor or trained healthcare professionals. We can expect the following in the course of procedure:

  • The procedure is performed using a handheld device.
  • The device has applicators similar to that of a vacuum cleaner.
  • A gel pad and an applicator are applied to the treatment area.
  • The applicator delivers controlled cooling to the targeted fat.
  • The device is then moved while suction and cooling technology are applied to the target area.
  • The procedure involves minimal pain.
  • The expert will massage the area immediately after the treatment to break down the frozen fat tissues.
  • Each treatment might take anywhere between one to three hours and the patients are awake often reading, listening to music.

As the procedure is non-invasive it is comparatively safer. There might be sensations of intense cold, pulling and stinging in the target area immediately after the treatment. The result of the cool sculpting is observed in three weeks. The complete effects can be noticed after two-three months. The fat flushing process continues for up to 6 months after initial treatment. There is little to no recovery time after a CoolSculpting procedure. Most people are approved to resume normal day-to-day activity immediately after. In some cases, some minor redness or soreness may occur in the area treated, but all minor side effects typically subside within a few weeks. It is essential to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen to make sure that there is no fat buildup in the target area.
