Buttocks Lift: Symptoms, Classification, Diagnosis & Recovery

A buttock lift is a cosmetic procedure aimed at enhancing the appearance of the buttocks. It can be performed as part of a tummy tuck or as a component of a lower body lift, which addresses the buttocks, groin, thighs, and abdomen for overall contouring.

Excess skin and fat are removed from the buttocks during a buttock lift, and the remaining skin is repositioned to create a more sculpted appearance. It's important to note that a buttock lift alone does not increase the volume of the buttocks. However, in some cases, it may be combined with augmentation techniques, such as implants or fat transfer from other areas of the body, to alter the shape or size of the buttocks.

You may choose to undergo butt lift in case you have:

  • Extra fat in the buttocks
  • Sagging, wrinkles, and excess skin around the buttocks
  • Experienced dramatic weight loss
  • Excess skin that interferes with mobility
  • Issues related to self-conscious because of the gluteal area that is not cosmetically pleasant

A butt lift is contraindicated in people who have:

  • Diabetes, hypertension, or any other chronic health problem
  • Thick layers of fat below the loose skin
  • Unstable weight
  • Pregnancy
  • Bad habit of smoking and cannot quit
  • Bad overall health status

Classification

Traditional Buttock Lift: This involves removing excess skin and fat from the buttock to enhance contour the remained skin is tightened and repositioned.

Lower Body Lift: This procedure addresses multiple areas, including the buttocks, groin, thighs, and abdomen.

Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL): Fat is harvested from other areas of the body through liposuction and then injected into the buttocks to enhance volume and shape.

Following are the signs and symptoms of the Buttock Lift:

  • Swelling and Bruising: swelling and bruising around the surgical site is quite normal, which subsides over time.
  • Discomfort or Pain: Pain or discomfort around the buttocks and lower back area is common, especially in the initial days post-surgery.
  • Restricted Mobility: some people might experience some difficulty while sitting, lying down, or performing certain movements due to the tightness and swelling in the buttock area.
  • Scarring: Incision scars along with the lower back are expected. These scars will gradually fade over time but may remain visible.
  • Numbness or Tingling: tingling sensations around the surgical site are common due to nerve irritation during surgery. it returns over time

A buttock lift is diagnosed through a consultation with a plastic surgeon. During this consultation, the surgeon will:

  • Evaluate Medical History: The surgeon will review the patient's medical history, including any previous surgeries, medical conditions, medications, and allergies.
  • Physical Examination: A thorough physical examination will be conducted to assess your buttock and lower body anatomy, skin quality, and overall health.
  • Imaging: In most cases, the surgeon may use imaging techniques such as CT scans or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to assess the anatomy and plan the surgery.
  • Tests are generally not required specifically for buttock lift surgery. However, if you have underlying health conditions or risk factors, the surgeon may ask for additional tests such as blood tests, electrocardiogram (ECG), or chest X-rays to ensure you are medically fit for surgery.

It is normal to experience mild to moderate pain and discomfort after the butt lift surgery. The surgeon will prescribe you a few medications that will help relieve pain. Additionally, it is normal to experience swelling and bruising after the surgery.

Recovery after a buttocks lift may take from a few weeks to almost six months. However, the swelling and bruising disappear within two to three weeks. Your cosmetic surgeon is most likely to advise you to stay away from exercising and strenuous exercising for at least three to four months.

The results after the buttocks lift are visible almost immediately. However, it may take a few months for the results to develop fully. Remember, a buttocks lift is designed to give your hips a toned and sleek look. It does not add volume or change the shape of your buttocks.
