VSD Closure / Repair in adults is performed to close a ventricular septal defect, which is an abnormal opening between the heart's two lower chambers. Small defects may not require intervention, but a significant VSD can cause excessive blood flow to the lungs, enlargement of the heart, pulmonary hypertension, or other complications. Depending on the location and size of the defect, closure may be performed surgically or, in selected cases, using a catheter-based device. Echocardiography and other cardiac tests help determine the appropriate approach.
