Cardiac Sciences

Cardiac science deals with all the procedures used for the treatment of diseases and conditions related to the heart. It is estimated that more than 17 million people around the world lose their lives because of a heart disease.

Hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, cardiac arrest, stroke, arrhythmia, atherosclerosis and congenital heart disease are some of the major diseases of the heart that require serious treatment.

Heart surgery is a common treatment performed on the valves, muscles and arteries of the heart in case of impairment. During a typical open heart surgery, the chest is cut open so that the surgeon can work on the targeted location.

Another procedure called bypass surgery involves the use of coronary artery bypass graft and for the same reason, it is also known as the CABG surgery. This surgery is conducted to normalize the flow of blood in case of an obstructed artery.

Pacemaker surgery is yet another form of cardiothoracic surgery in which a device called a pacemaker is inserted beneath the collarbone. The electrodes attached to the device are inserted in the subclavian vein and guided to reach the right atrium of the heart.

Cardiac science defibrillator is yet another life-saving equipment used to save the life of a patient who suffers from a sudden cardiac arrest. It is also used to treat dysrhythmias, especially in the case of non-perfusing ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF) with the help of a strong dose of electric current delivered to the heart. Defibrillator cost varies from one medical facility to another.
