C-section is the short form for the cesarian procedure. It is performed to deliver a baby through an incision made in the mother's abdomen and uterus. The procedure is most commonly suggested when vaginal delivery poses risks to the mother or baby or when labor is not progressing as expected. A c-section is performed under general anesthesia (usually regional or epidural) to numb the lower part of the body. An incision is made horizontally or vertically in the abdominal wall and uterus. After a C-section, the recovery process can take several weeks. It is common to stay in the hospital for 2-4 days after a C-section. In the initial phases of recovery, rest is important, but gradually increasing mobility is encouraged to prevent blood clots and aid recovery.
