He completed his MBBS in 2003 from King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College, Mumbai. Later on, in 2007, he completed his MS in General Surgery from the esteemed AIIMS. From the same institute in 2010, he completed his M. Ch in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Dhananjay was a clinical fellow in Congenital Cardiac Surgery at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
