Qualification and Experience

Dr. Tan Chee Seng is a distinguished Senior Medical Oncologist at OncoCare Cancer Centre. Previously, he worked as a Consultant in the Haematology-Oncology Department at the National University Cancer Institute of Singapore (NCIS) within the National University Hospital (NUH). In addition, he held a position as a Visiting Consultant at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH).

Furthermore, Dr. Tan embarked on his medical journey at the School of Medicine, National University of Singapore(NUS), where he obtained his undergraduate degree. Further, he did his medical education with a post-graduate qualification from the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom. Following this, he completed his advanced specialist training in Medical Oncology at the National University Hospital. His commitment to advancing his expertise led him to be honored with the Academic Medicine Development Award (AMDA) fellowship, which allowed him to subspecialize in the personalization of lung cancer therapies at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge University, in the United Kingdom.

His clinical practice focuses on lung/thoracic and head/neck cancers, where he has developed significant expertise and interest. He has published many research papers nationally and internationally and was co-author of book chapters.

Moreover, Dr. Tan has been a prominent figure in the oncology community, frequently invited to speak at or chair various local and regional oncology conferences. In addition, he regularly conducted public seminars aimed at local general practitioners (GPs), updating them on the latest advancements in cancer treatments. His contributions to medical research were acknowledged through multiple awards, including grants from the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) for the Clinician Investigator Salary Support Programme and from the Investigational Medicine Unit (IMU) for Bridging Funds.

In the realm of education, Dr. Tan played a pivotal role at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, particularly at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (YLLSOM) and the National University Hospital (NUH). His past roles included serving as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, YLLSOM, where he was also the Undergraduate Education Director for Medical Oncology. Additionally, he was a core faculty member of the Medical Oncology Senior Residency Program at NUH and took on the role of examiner for the YLLSOM final year MBBS examinations.
