With more than 25000 cardiac surgeries performed by him, Dr. Gopichand Mannam is one of the highly experienced cardiac surgeons having more than 30-year experience. Dr. Gopichand completed his MBBS from Guntur Medical College in the year 1981. From 1981 to 1983, he developed initial surgical skills in West Indies. Later he went to the UK for advanced studies in surgery. He was awarded Fellowship from Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, in 1986 and The Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow in 1987. Currently, he is heading the cardiothoracic department at Star Hospitals at Hyderabad. He was associated with Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad, Medwin Hospital, Hyderabad and CARE Hospitals, Hyderabad.
Dr. Gopichand Mannam is a pioneer in introducing various cardiac surgeries in India such as Undersized Donor heart transplantation and Beating Heart Coronary bypass surgery. He is also the pioneer in Mitral Valve Replacement and Minimally Invasive Atrial Septal Defect Closure. Dr. Gopichand has been awarded the prestigious Padma Shri award, in 2016, for his contribution to medical science.
