Mesothelioma is a cancer that starts as an overgrowth of mesothelium cells. A thin layer of tissue called the mesothelium covers many of the internal organs.

It occurs most often in the tissue around the lungs, which is referred to as pleural mesothelioma. Mesothelioma can also occur in the tissues around the testicles, heart, and abdomen.

Malignant mesothelioma, or simply mesothelioma, is a fast-growing cancer that is terminal. Mesothelioma has treatments. Yet, there is no treatment for mesothelioma in most instances.
