Coronary Angiography (CAG) is an examination/exploration of the heart's arteries to see how they are working. CAG is used to find blockages/narrow spots in the sudden/stopping blood flow to the heart's left side (coronary arteries) and determine if there is any abnormality that can lead to chest pain, trouble breathing (shortness of breath), or an event that could lead to a heart attack.
The CAG procedure is performed by placing a thin catheter through the wrist or groin, advancing it to the heart, injecting contrast dye, and using an X-ray machine to continuously image blood flowing through the coronary arteries. The CAG is considered the preferred method for confirming coronary artery disease and is also essential in making decisions for future treatment (angioplasty, stents, or bypass surgery).
