Brachytherapy is a form of internal radiation therapy in which a radioactive source is placed inside or close to the area being treated. It allows radiation to be delivered directly to the tumor while limiting exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. Brachytherapy may be used for selected cancers, including prostate, cervical, uterine, breast, and other cancers. Depending on the cancer type and treatment plan, the radioactive source may be placed temporarily or permanently.
