Septoplasty is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, which means that most patients can return home the same day. Swelling can last 2 to 3 days, but it might take up to 3 months to recover fully.
After surgery, you can't fly for a week. Flying should be limited to two weeks if you've also had sinus surgery. Apply ice to the region around the nose and cheeks if required.
After nasal surgery, people may experience swelling in the nose, upper lip, cheeks, or around the eyes. There can be bruising around the eyes and nose. The nose may be painful and bleed. This could last a few days following surgery. Do consult your doctor for better post-operative care so that your path to recovery is seamless.
Septoplasty is primarily a functional surgery. However, in some cases, it may slightly alter the external shape of the nose. If cosmetic improvement is also desired, it can be combined with Rhinoplasty (Septorhinoplasty).
Light activities can be resumed after one week, but strenuous exercise or contact sports should be avoided for at least 3 to 4 weeks to prevent injury or bleeding
