Dr. Nejat Akalan

• Dr. Nejat Akalan, who has had over 45 years of experience in the practice of neurosurgery, now holds the position of heading the neurosurgery department at Medipol Mega University.
• He is an expert in new-age treatment methods such as radiation-based procedures applied for conditions like epilepsy, glioblastoma, spinal injuries, and deep brain stimulation.
• He received his medical degree from Ankara University in 1980, completed a residency in neurosurgery at Hacettepe University in 1986, and then returned to that university for research and training.
• Among his experience, which includes visits to countries and involvement in international programs, are that he was a visiting lecturer at the University of Washington, and a neurosurgeon at the Department of Neurosurgery of Hacettepe University during the years from 1993 until 2000 before joining Medipol Mega University.
• Active in many eminent institutions such as the Turkish Brain Research and Neuroscience Association, Turkish Clinical EMG-EEG Association and the Turkish Neurology Association, contributing to neurological disease management progress.
• Dr. Akalan is the author of more than 117 research papers on epilepsy and brain malformations, which have been presented at international conferences and symposiums organised for knowledge dissemination of modern neurosurgery worldwide.
