Prof Mehmet Akif Ozturk is a highly experienced Medical Oncologist, currently working with Memorial Sisli Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey.
Prof Mehmet has completed his Bachelor’s Degree, School of Medicine from Marmara University (1997-2003). Later from 2003-2009, he earned a Residency in the Internal Medicine Department, School of Medicine at Istanbul University. The doctor is a voracious learner. During his internal medicine residency, he was interested in the palliative care of cancer patients and the basics of clinical research, therefore he then decided to pursue a Residency in Medical Oncology (2009-2012), Cerrahpasa School of Medicine from Istanbul University. During his residency, Prof Mehmet got the opportunity for a short visit to the MD Anderson Cancer Centre (Houston, Texas) at the Breast Medical Oncology Department 2011 to observe the clinical care of breast cancer patients.
Lately, in 2015-2017, Dr. Mehmet was hired as an Assistant Professor at Medical Oncology Division, School of Medicine at Marmara University. Dr. Mehmet was also promoted to Associate Professor at Marmara University's School of Medicine's Medical Oncology Division in 2017.
When asked, Prof Dr. Mehmet Akif Ozturk stated that he has a strong belief that the search of the unknown, which is often seen in cancer, is a main motivator among the people– this is what brought each one of us towards oncology.
Prof Mehmet Akif Ozturk functions actively as a member of the Young Oncologists Committee (YOC) and ESMO (European Society of Medical Oncology). Both of the organizations are an excellent starting point providing various professional networking opportunities. Not only this, Prof Mehmet Akif Ozturk holds the professional membership of the Turkish Medical Association (TMA) and the Turkish Society of Medical Oncology (TSMO).
