With more than 35 years of experience, Dr. Pratap Chandra Rath is one of the highly experienced cardiac surgeons in southern India. Dr. Pratap completed his MBBS in 1979 from MBBS, VSS Medical College, Orissa and in 1983, MD was awarded to him by SCB Medical College. From the prestigious Christian Medical College in 1986, Dr. Pratap completed DM in Cardiology. From the University of Rounce, France, he was awarded Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology. He was also awarded a fellowship in training in coronary artery stenting.
In 2016, Dr. Pratap was awarded Chelitola Samman for his contribution to advanced cardiothoracic surgery. In 2014, he was also nominated for the Padmashri award by the Government of Orrisa. Dr. Pratap is an esteemed member of the American College of Cardiology and European College of Cardiology along with the Indian College of Cardiology. He is a highly experienced surgeon with more than 20000 angiograms and 2500 coronary stentings. By using the protection device, he was the first to perform carotid stenting in India. He was the pioneer in performing drug-eluting stent in the Asia-Pacific region. His area of expertise includes transesophageal Echocardiogram, balloon Mitral Valvotomy, Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator, and Mitral Valve Repair.
