Dr. Talwar is the recipient of various awards such as Padma Bhushan, NAMS Ayrabhat award, B. C. Roy Award, Norman Alpert Award, Sujoy B. Roy Memorial Investigator Award, and Searle Award. In 1995, he was the first to introduce implantable Cardioverter & Defibrillator Therapy in India. In 2000, he was the forerunner in introducing CRT therapy in India. Also, he has been named in the Limca Book of records in 1997 for introducing ICD therapy in India. In 1986, Dr. Talwar was the pioneer in introducing endomyocardial biopsy at AIIMS. Due to his efforts, the technique of diagnosis and evaluation of tropical heart disease was deployed at AIIMS.
