Qualification and Experience

Dr. Vivek Jawali is a highly experienced Cardiothoracic surgeon with more than 39 years of experience. He completed his MBBS in 1974 from M R Medical College. Gulbarga, Karnataka. Later on, he obtained his degree of MS from JJMMC, Davangere. He underwent advanced degree in cardiothoracic surgery and MS was awarded to him by KEM Hospital and Seth GS Medical College, Mumbai. Currently, Dr. Jawali is working as a Chairman of the Department of Cardio Vascular Sciences at Fortis Hospitals, Bangalore. Prior to this, he was associated with Wockhardt Hospital.

Contribution to Medical Science

Dr. Jawali is extensively experienced cardiothoracic surgeon with many “first-time” surgeries under his credit. He was the first in India to perform beating heart bypass surgery in 1992, Minimally invasive bypass surgery in 1994 and awake bypass surgery in 1999. In 2002, he also performed India’s first wake open heart bypass surgery. He is also the Board member of Asia Pacific valve repair group. Dr. Jawali has performed more than 18000 vascular and cardiothoracic surgeries with an exceptionally high success rate. In 2008, he was nominated as the president of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons. His area of expertise includes Minimally Invasive Bypass Surgery and Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeries.
