Esophageal cancer is a malignant tumor that develops in the esophagus, the muscular tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach. The two main types are esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, which develops from the cells lining the esophagus, and esophageal adenocarcinoma, which develops from glandular cells and is often associated with the lower esophagus.
Early diagnosis and treatment of esophageal cancer are important because the disease can progress and spread without treatment. When detected earlier, treatment has a better chance of controlling or eliminating the cancer.
Timely evaluation can also help determine whether surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or a combination of treatments is most appropriate. For advanced disease, treatment may focus on controlling cancer growth, relieving symptoms, maintaining nutrition, and improving quality of life.

Endoscopic treatment: Early, superficial cancers and selected precancerous lesions may be treated using endoscopic mucosal resection or endoscopic submucosal dissection.
Esophagectomy : It may be performed to remove the affected portion of the esophagus and nearby lymph nodes. Minimally invasive or robotic approaches may be appropriate for selected patients.
