Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) combines removal of a problematic cervical disc with stabilization of the affected spinal segment. The surgeon reaches the cervical spine from the front of the neck and removes the damaged disc and any bone or tissue contributing to neural compression. An interbody implant containing or accompanied by bone graft material is placed between the vertebrae to support fusion. Additional fixation may be used to maintain alignment during healing.
