The procedure is primarily performed for specific arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, and certain types of ventricular arrhythmias. Catheters are inserted into a blood vessel and advanced to the heart to locate abnormal electrical pathways. The heart is also monitored for heart rhythms beforehand.
