Nissen Fundoplication is a surgical procedure primarily used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and selected cases of hiatal hernia. During the procedure, the upper portion of the stomach, called the fundus, is wrapped completely around the lower esophagus to reinforce the lower esophageal sphincter and reduce the backward flow of stomach contents. The procedure is commonly performed using a laparoscopic approach.
