Ileoanal Anastomosis (J-Pouch) Surgery is a restorative procedure used to remove the diseased colon and rectum while creating a new pathway for stool elimination. During the procedure, the end of the small intestine is formed into a pouch, commonly shaped like the letter “J,” and connected to the anus. This allows bowel movements to occur through the natural route and may eliminate the need for a permanent ileostomy in appropriately selected patients.
