Foraminotomy is designed to increase the space available for a spinal nerve as it exits the spinal canal. The procedure involves removing a limited amount of bone, ligament, or other tissue responsible for narrowing the foramen. It may be performed alone or together with other spinal procedures when additional compression or instability is present.
